Please share a memory of Kenmore to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Kenmore "Ken" Harry Emerson, 87, passed away peacefully at home on December 8, 2025. Ken was born March 15, 1938 in Tokyo, Japan, to Dolores and Kenmore Emerson. His father's career as an international banker allowed Ken a childhood filled with travel, and he lived in many places around the world, including the Philippines, Uruguay and England.
On September 7, 1974, Ken married the love of his life, Julie Gillespie, in Philadelphia, PA. They spent most of their married life on Manhattan's Upper East Side before moving to Norwalk in 2019 to be closer to their grandchildren. Ken and Julie celebrated 51 years of marriage together.
Ken is survived by his wife, Julie, and his three daughters: Nancy Emerson; Katherine (Katie) and her husband, David Gardiner; and Evelyn (Evie) and her husband, Neil Smaldon. He was predeceased by his sister, Martha Bailes Emerson, and his son, Kenmore Brooks Emerson. He is also survived by his five cherished grandchildren: Madeline, Ryan, Caroline, Emma, and Samuel.
Ken graduated from Vermont Academy and Colgate University. He loved downhill skiing and was a competitive long-distance ski jumper during his high school years.
He enjoyed a long and successful career in advertising, rising quickly through the industry. He later concluded his professional life at the Bank of New York, where he worked for many years before retiring in 2008.
Ken was a lifelong learner. From walking tours, museum visits, Lincoln Center, and art classes, he took full advantage of all New York City had to offer.
A proud relative of Ralph Waldo Emerson, Ken took great joy in exploring his family's history. He delighted in creating detailed family trees and enthusiastically sharing stories of his ancestors with relatives whenever he could.
Above all, Ken was a devoted Pop Pop to his five grandchildren—his greatest joy in life. He celebrated their achievements big and small, always encouraging them quietly and steadfastly from behind the scenes.
Ken will be remembered for his sharp wit, unwaveringly kind heart, unforgettable stories, and deep love for his family.
