William H. Banks III, a longtime resident of Darien, died on November 1, 2025, at the age of 93.
Originally from Boston, Bill graduated from Amherst College in 1953 and served as an officer in the U.S. Navy. Most of his business career was spent at Kliklok, an international packaging machinery company, where he was CEO for many years. Bill and his family made their home in Darien for more than 6 decades.
Bill loved golf and was a member of Wee Burn Country Club, where he shared countless rounds and good times with friends, and took home his fair share of hardware. He was a skilled woodworker whose creations are still enjoyed by family and friends. He also loved sailing—especially trips aboard the Sally 4th—and skiing at Okemo.
He had a wide circle of friends and was known for his easygoing nature, humor, and kindness.
Bill and his wife, Sally, were married for 71 years. Their devotion to each other was clear to everyone who knew them. He was predeceased by their elder daughter, Laura. He is survived by his wife, Sally, and their two children, Sara and Bill (Willow), as well as son-in-law Paul Bruck and a large extended family.
He was a proud and loving grandfather to eleven and great-grandfather to nine.
Bill leaves behind a legacy of love, friendship, and respect for others.
At his request, no service will be held, but a family gathering will be held to celebrate his life.
