Obituary of Rose DeNicola Rodriguez

Rose DeNicola Rodriguez, affectionately known as "Cracklin' Rosie," passed away peacefully at the age of 101. Born on the evening of July 4, 1924, in Brooklyn, New York, to Vincenza and Francisco DeNicola, Rose came into the world with fireworks in the sky — a fitting beginning for a woman whose spirit was bright, bold, and unforgettable.

Rose was one of fourteen siblings and grew up surrounded by family, spirited conversation, and the lively rhythm of Brooklyn life. She spent nearly her entire life there, building a life filled with warmth, music, and energy that drew people in.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Andrew Rodriguez; her cherished daughter, Patricia McCusker Coleman; her parents; and her thirteen brothers and sisters. She is survived by her granddaughter, Alexandra Coleman Connelly, and grandson-in-law, Christopher Connelly; her great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Wyatt, and Hunter; her son-in-law, William Coleman; and her many adored nieces and nephews, all of whom brought her endless pride and joy.

Rose lived life with heart and fire. She spent many years behind the bar at Mom's, where her sharp humor and kind heart made her a neighborhood favorite. Later, she became the proud owner of her own establishment, The Marina Rose, where she welcomed countless Coast Guard sailors and service members before their deployments — always sending them off with warmth, wisdom, and a smile.

She made friends easily and held no prejudice, welcoming people from all walks of life with an open heart and an open seat at her table. She loved a great party, long dinners full of storytelling and a well-filled glass. Her home was always ready for company — whether it was a friend dropping by for a drink, or her great-grandchildren eager to find the treats and toys she always had waiting for them. Rose had a knack for making everyone feel at home.

A lover of Christmas, she transformed her home each year into a winter wonderland, complete with an elaborate Christmas village that delighted everyone who saw it. Ever curious and ahead of her time, she was always excited about new technology — from camcorders to smartphones — embracing every innovation with enthusiasm and wonder.

Rose's spirit, vitality, and humor will live on in the countless lives she touched. Her legacy is one of energy, joy, and unshakable warmth — the kind that fills a room and stays long after the music stops. A Mass to celebrate Rosie's life will be held on Monday October 27, 2025 at 10AM at Church of The Resurrection, 910 Boston Post Rd. Rye NY 10580. Burial will be private.
