Adele Ballot Dempsey died peacefully July 10, 2025 after a long illness. Born in Brooklyn, New York on September 22, 1936 to Elizabeth Corell and Francois Ballot, Adele spent her childhood in Freeport, New York, the youngest of three sisters. She attended Freeport High School where she was a member of the band and graduated from Cazenovia College.
Adele was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, godmother andfriend. Adele is survived by her son Christopher Dempsey(Angela) and daughter Elizabeth Gilbert (Ron Hammer), granddaughters Brooke Joosten, Megan Connolly and Kristy McManamon, grandsons Sean, Nathan and Matthew Dempsey and 5 great grandchildren Liam, Sofia and Chloe Joosten, Cameron and Declan Connolly. She is also survived by her sister Colette Williams, nieces and nephews and extended family.
Adele worked at Conde Naste Publications before moving to Darien, Connecticut to raise herfamily. She became actively involved in the public schools and coached various extra curricular sports. After raising her children, Adele joined Group W Communications and The Robbins Company where she made lasting friendships.
Adele was an avid golfer and long time member of Wee Burn Country Club. She enjoyed playing bridge, needlepoint, calligraphy, card and board games. She was an active and involved grandmother and could be seen at numerous activities, notably cheering from the sidelines at her grandchildren's sporting events.
Adele had an innate ability to connect with everyone around her. Her vibrant smile and caring demeanor always lit up the room. Adele will be remembered for her devotion to family and friends, her love of social gatherings and her well known affinity for Haagen Dazs ice cream. Her quick wit, funny sayings and whistle were her trademarks. Her generosity and kindness were gifts to all who knew her.
The family would like to express gratitude to the healthcare workers at Waveny Care Center and Constellation Hospice Care for their support and compassion throughout Adele's long illness.
