Oh the memories..,cruising with Port & Kathy! The BVI,
Long Island Sound. The Thousand Islands, going through the Erie Canal , anchoring at the Statue of Liberty. Norwalk Yacht Club summer cruises. If only I’d kept a log ! Port’s incredible anecdotes & stories during his lifetime would make a most interesting book. Now , we’ll have cherished memories. Our condolences to his tireless & admirable first mate, Kathy , his family, & to all who loved & appreciated Port. Fair winds …..John & Marilynn Love

Port was one of the most generous people I have known. When I look back on my years at Norwalk Yacht Club, Port always comes to mind first. Always giving freely of his time and good advice. Full of suggestions and answers on all things nautical. Always a delight to speak with while sitting on the club deck. I’ll never forget the 4th of July evenings on Kindred, when Port sailed that boat so far into shore to get “front row seats” for the fireworks that we were all convinced he’d be on the rocks for sure. What a loss to the sailing community.

A wry smile and a dry all knowing humor- humility based upon so many achievements and Kathy’s support at every turn. No need to talk about himself as he had done it all. We adore them both for the uncountable contributions and high bar - too high for many of us to reach. We love you both and will someday sail with amongst the clouds

We lost a great sailor and competitor with Port's passing.
As a long time Corinthian and participant in the annual cruise racing, I was treated to close competition by Port and Kathy on Kindred many times. Sometimes I came out ahead, but more often Kindred did. My crew and I enjoyed the competition.
I also raced against Port many times in the annual frostbite regattas at Mystic Seaport. I think he bested me every time.
It was a treat to know him and be able to sail against him and to enjoy his company at the Corinthian events.
Fair winds to you, Kathy, and the family.
