Andrew J. Wainacht "Andy", age 89 of Darien CT passed away peacefully at home on August 8th after fighting through a long illness.

He was born on June 3rd 1936 in Norwalk, CT. The son of the late Andrew and Theresa Hornyak Wainacht. He was a graduate of Norwalk High School and of Norwalk Community College, from which he received a degree in Law Enforcement. He was also a graduate of The FBI National Academy.

He proudly served his country with the United States Marine Corps.  Andy was a retired Detective Sergeant with the New Canaan Police Department, where many knew him as "Ducky". After retirement, he worked many years as a School Crossing Guard at Hindley School for the town of Darien.

Andrew is survived by his wife, Sharon McManus Wainacht of Darien.  He is also survived by his daughter Milissa Brigante (Daniel) of Old Saybrook, CT, his son Andrew Wainacht (Kim) of Putnam, CT, his daughter Suzanne Silverman (Richard) of Norwalk, CT, and his daughter Brittany Hasak (Zachary) of Trumbull, CT. Andy is also survived by 9 grandchildren Brennan, Kaleigh, Andrew (Emily), Spencer, Rebecca (Christopher), Tyler (Alessandra), Ryan (Rochelle), Harper, and Amelia. Harper and Amelia called him "Bigby" and their love and affection lit up his days. Andy is also survived by 4 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.  Andrew was predeceased by his younger brother, James, who had also served in the USMC and the New Canaan Police Department.

Andy's family would like to especially thank the amazing help and support of the neighbors on Thomasina Lane for their unwavering assistance, along with Post 53 EMS, who responded with professionalism and compassion during the family's time of need.

Donations in Andy's memory may be made to Post 53 EMS and to theTunnel to Towers Foundation. A visiting hour for friends and family will be held on Monday, August 18, 2025 from 10:00am-12:00pm at Lawrence Funeral Home in Darien,CT. A private burial at Spring Grove Cemetery in Darien, CT will immediately follow.
