Obituary of James Philip Clucus

James Philip Clucus, known to most as Jim and to his family and friends as "G," passed away peacefully on March 6, 2025, at Stamford Hospital in Stamford, CT. Born on January 2, 1951, in Athol, MA, Jim was the cherished son of the late Eleanor and William Clucus. As an only child, he learned early the value of close relationships, and it was in the tight-knit community of Athol that he found his first love—sports. From basketball to football, baseball, and even skiing and then golf, Jim embraced competition and camaraderie in equal measure. His love for sports was never just about the game; it was about the friendships, teamwork, and the joy of being part of something larger than oneself.

A proud graduate of Fitchburg State University with a degree in Psychology, Jim's career path reflected his natural leadership and insight. He took a position in Human Resources in Greenfield MA and excelled quickly embracing the connections with the company as well as the people. He then continued his professional life in business management in Vermont, where he also started his family, welcoming daughters Nicole and Jacquelyn with their mother, Jean Ryder. In the later years of his career, he found his stride in commercial real estate, relocating to Connecticut to be near his beloved daughters and, of course, his grandchildren.

Jim's life was a story of devotion, hard work, and always showing up. Whether he was at every one of his grandchildren's games or practices (and there were many), offering advice when needed, or simply being present for his family, Jim was always there.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Nicole Austin of Darien, CT, her husband Jonathan Austin, and children Sophie, Lila, and Ryder, as well as his daughter Jacquelyn Clucus of Milford, CT, and her son Hunter. He leaves behind a legacy of love, loyalty, and the reminder that showing up—whether in person or in spirit—is one of the greatest gifts you can give to those you love.

A memorial in honor of Jim will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Lawrence Funeral Home (2119 Post Road, Darien, CT). Visiting hours will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with the service beginning at 11:00 AM. Following the service, the family invites you to join them for a celebration of Jim's life at the Austin family home.

Jim's passing leaves a gap that can never be filled, but his impact on all who knew him will continue to live on.
