Born Viscount Jacques Antoine de Spoelberch,in Brussels, Belgium, Jacques, aged 88, died at home in Norwalk, CT on Dec. 26th, 2024. Survived by his beloved wife Margaret Elaine Gaskell de Spoelberch, children Christopher, Nicholas (Erin) and Gregory and three grandchildren. He was the son of Viscount Eric de Spoelberch and Katharine Kelso (Stewart) de Spoelberch of Philadelphia. He was predeceased by his father at the age of 2 when his father died in a plane crash while testing a new jet for the Belgian airforce. He attended Maredsous lower school in Belgium in his early years, Brooks School for middle school, Portsmouth Abbey for high school & finally Princeton University. Class of '58. After graduation he joined the publishing world as an editor at Houghton Mifflin in Boston. He then became a literary agent at IMG in New York in 1971 and started his own agency in 1975 in Norwalk.
He loved playing sports whether it be paddle, tennis or golf and was a Member of Weeburn Country Club for many years.
To quote one of his authors, Jon Michael Varese, "He was old enough to have ushered James Dickey's "Deliverance" into the world (1970) and still young enough to have published Michael Witwer et al's Art & Arcana, the definitive visual history of Dungeons & Dragons (2018). A career nothing short of majestic".
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 4th, at 10:30 a.m. at St Thomas More Church, Darien, CT, followed by a reception at the Weeburn Country Club.
