John Joseph Lyons, 46, departed this world suddenly, but peacefully, surrounded by loving family members on September 20, 2024. John was born and raised in Darien, CT. He had a joy of music that knew no genre and a competitive love of all games from little league baseball to board games on holiday evenings. His greatest love was his family and spending his time with them. Some of John's fondest childhood memories were his summers spent in Ireland which he considered to be a second home.
John was predeceased by his beloved mother, Kathleen Keegan Lyons and doting sister Bridget Lyons McGuire. He is survived by his father, James Lyons of Darien; his sister and brother-in-law, Mary & Sean Sorohan of Pearl River, NY; his sister and brother-in-law, Celia & Michael Beluk of Stamford; and his brother, James Lyons of Darien. John became a proud uncle at the age of 12 and embraced that role with his whole heart and never wavered in his love for his nieces and nephews: Lauren, Michael (Allyson) & Matthew Beluk, and Bridget & Sean Sorohan.
John was blessed to be born into a large, Irish family, and made a point to stay in contact with them as regularly as he could. While sadly many have passed, he is survived by his aunts and uncles: Bryan Lyons, Mickey & Brigid Keegan, Frank & Hannah Keegan and Nuala McCormack of the U.S. and Nan Boyce, Margo Keegan, Nellie Keegan and Angela Lyons of Ireland. Predeceased by four cousins, John leaves behind over 40 first cousins – all of whom can attest to his sweet, gentle nature … and he loved them all, more than they know.
A Requiem Mass will be held for our Johnny-Joe at St. Thomas More Church in Darien on Wednesday, September 25th at 10:30 am. His interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery.
