Obituary of Richard W. Stitzel, CLU
Richard W. Stitzel, CLU, a former resident of Darien, CT, died peacefully on Monday, July 7, 2008 at the age of 81. He was predeceased by his parents, Earl and Flo Stitzel and his sister, Dorothy Sendra all from Nelson, IL where Richard was born.
Mr. Stitzel was committed to providing group major medical products to large corporations as a professional insurance broker with Mass Mutual Company of New York City graduating from Carthage College of Illinois. Along with his real estate license, he maintained an active life through the Kiwanis Club of Stamford, Curtain Call and was an honorary New York City Fire Chief. He played the drums in a Navy Band during World War II. His greatest achievement was playing drums with Gene Krupa. Music and traveling were his passions to enjoy with his family.
Richard is survived by his life partner, Fran Ventura; his daughters, Ellen Stitzel-Becker of Stamford and Lynne (Ed) Tiano of Darien; and his son, Ben Flaim of New York. He is also survived by his older brother Robert Stitzel (Betty) of Ohio; his step-sons, Len (Elizabeth) Ventura of Stamford and Ron Ventura of New Canaan. He is survived by his loving grandchildren, the oldest, Paul Richard Johnson, Lauren Becker and Brittany Tiano and three step grandchildren, Jordan, Cydney, and Nina Ventura.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Chapel 1864 Post Road, Darien on Saturday, July 12, 2008 at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place at a later date in Sterling, IL. The Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, Darien is handling the arrangements.
