Obituary of Carleton L. Pierpont

Carleton L. Pierpont, a resident of Darien for 43 years, died on May 30, 2008 at Stamford Hospital. Born in Worcester, MA, Carleton was the son of the late Harlan T. Pierpont and Dorothy L. Hobson Pierpont. He was 81.
Carleton attended the Massachusetts Maritime Academy and became an Ensign in the Merchant Marines. He received an AB in Economics from Harvard in 1951 where he was a member of the A.D. and Hasty Pudding Clubs. He spent his career as a Commercial Real Estate broker in NYC and later founded the C.L. Pierpont Company. In his retirement years, he worked with his son Samuel as a manager at the Bridgeport Innovation Center. Carleton was also a longtime member of St Luke's Episcopal Church in Darien, the Harvard Club of NYC, the Tokeneke Club, and was a member of the Senior Men's Organization of Darien. He enjoyed sailing, painting with watercolors and was the keeper of Pip's Path.
Carleton is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Pierpont of Darien, two sons, Samuel Pierpont and wife (Renee) of Darien, Alexander Pierpont and wife (Lisa) of Brookline, MA, a daughter Elizabeth Engstrom and husband (Erik) of London, England and two sisters, Dorothy Grose of Needham, MA, and Janet Hosmer of Holden, MA. He is also survived by six grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by two brothers, John Pierpont, formerly of Darien and Harlan Pierpont and a sister, Barbara Ewer.
A memorial service will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church on Monday, June 9, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. The Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, Darien, CT handled the arrangements.
