Obituary of Rita Cantwell

Rita Cantwell, a long time resident of Darien, passed away in Stamford on July 21, 2008 at St. Camillus Nursing Center. Born in New York City on April 23, 1915, she was the second of nine children born to the late James and Elizabeth Phelan Tymon. Rita was employed for many years at Conde Nast Publications where she met and later married her late husband, Harold "Farmer" Cantwell. In later years, she was employed by Modern Printing. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Lee Querro of Darien; granddaughters, Allison Querro of New York City and Carey Strahley, her husband Charlie and great grandson Charlie of Norwalk. Also surviving are her three sisters and one brother, Veronica (Ronnie) Hopkins of Fort Lauderdale, FL; Kathleen (Kay) Herbert of Darien; Marjorie (Mickey) Herbert of Stamford and John (Jack) Tymon of Shelburne, NH and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Rita was predeceased by four brothers, Charles, James, William and Thomas. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2008 from 9:00 to 10:30 AM at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John R.C. Church, 1986 Post Road, Darien on Thursday, July 24, 2008 at 11:00 AM followed by a burial at St. John Cemetery in Darien.
