Obituary of Alice Mary Martin

Alice Mary Martin, a resident of Stamford and a former 30-year resident of Darien and 9-year resident of New Canaan, passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at Stamford Hospital. Born in 1919 in Norwalk, she was the daughter of the late Manson and Rose Mary (Lamb) Merrill. She was 88. Alice graduated from the Norwalk Hospital Nursing School and received her Bachelor of Science and Master's degrees from Columbia University. She worked as a nurse at Norwalk Hospital and was a long time nurse at St. Luke's Hospital in New York, where she became the Director of St. Luke's Nursing School. While living in Darien, she was also active with the American Red Cross and their blood drives, the D.C.A., Meals on Wheels and reading for the blind. She is survived by her daughter Pamela M. Heberton and her husband, Dick, of Darien and two grandchildren, Jennifer D. Heberton and Eric R. Heberton, also of Darien. Funeral Service was held at St. Luke's Episcopal Chapel, 1864 Post Road, Darien on Friday, August 15, 2008. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the National American Red Cross, 2025 E Street, NW, Washington, DC 20006.
