Obituary of Robert William Lotz

Robert William Lotz, a 47-year resident of Darien, died on August 19, 2008 in Port Chester, New York from Alzheimer's disease. He was 85.
He was born in Youngstown, Ohio on May 26, 1923; the son of the late W. Albert and Lettie King Lotz. He graduated from Worcester Academy and Worcester Polytechnic Institute where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha. He served in the US Navy in World War II in radar on the USS Adirondack.
Robert was a research and development engineer in the printing industry. He was employed by two former research subsidiaries of Time-Warner, the Springdale Laboratory in Stamford, located at what is now Largo Park, and Printing Developments, Inc. in Norwalk.
He enjoyed woodworking, ballroom and round dancing, stained glass, bowling and vacationing at his summer place in New Brunswick, Canada. He played piano and organ, and was a life Master at Bridge. At the age of sixty-two he began scuba diving in the Caribbean after taking a rigorous course. He was a member of the Noroton Presbyterian Church and the Darien Senior Center, and a volunteer at Meals on Wheels and the Red Cross.
He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Betty Borgeson Lotz, two sons, Norman Lotz of Tarrytown, New York and Steven Lotz and his wife Linda Allen Lotz of Bettendorf, Iowa, one granddaughter, Deborah Lotz of Cary, North Carolina, and two grandsons, Roy Lotz and Jay Lotz of Tarrytown. He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Christine Lotz.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 30, at 11 a.m. at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien with the Rev. Gregory Doll officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Friday, August 29, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Noroton Presbyterian Church, 2011 Post Road, Darien or to the Darien Senior Center, P.O.
