Obituary of Alma B. Bell

Alma B. Bell, age 82, of Darien, passed away peacefully September 9, 2008 at Stamford Hospital following surgery. She was surrounded by her loving family. Born September 29, 1925 in Newburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late George E. and Beatrice (Van Scyoc) Stake. She was predeceased by her brothers Samuel Stake, Wilmot Stake, John Stake, Homer Stake and sisters Virginia Asper and Isabel Bistline. She was also predeceased by her daughter Faith B. Nobel (Peter). She leaves behind to cherish her memory her son Allan of Darien and daughter Alma (Libby) Stockenbojer (and husband Jimmy)of Stamford, CT, and her grandchildren Aaron Nobel of Waterbury, CT, Storm Nobel of New Haven, CT, Kailey Stockenbojer, Alissa Stockenbojer, Erica Stockenbojer, and Sarah Stockenbojer, all of Stamford. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Alma graduated from Shippensburg High School in Shippensburg, PA in 1943, married her former husband William Bell in 1945 and moved to Darien in 1946. She worked for Pitney Bowes, where she was a member of the Oval Club, before retiring in 1989 after 20 years. She enjoyed retirement to the fullest. She took many wonderful trips with AARP and joined the quilting class at the Darien Senior Center. She spent many hours creating beautiful hand stitched quilts, most of which she gave to her family. Alma loved her flower and vegetable garden which she could be found in every day. It was her relaxation and one of her greatest joys after her family. She was a longtime member of the Darien United Methodist Church where she was a member of the flower committee, worked at many rummage sales and for many years helped with Tower Tidings mailings. Alma was deeply loved and will be dearly missed. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 27th at 1:00 PM at the Darien United Methodist Church, 345 Middlesex Rd. Darien, CT 06820. There will be no calling hours. Internment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Darien Senior Activities Center, 30 Edgerton Street, Darien, CT 06820.
