Obituary of Susan Wood-Carlson

CARLSON, Susan Wood of West Norwalk, CT and Jefferson, ME passed away November 11 after a courageous battle with cancer. The daughter of the late Roy and Jacqueline Wood of Bellport, NY, she was valedictorian of her class at Bellport High School. She went on to study art at Beaver College in Glenside, PA, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.F.A. Susan enjoyed a long, successful career in advertising, starting as a Fashion Illustrator/Art Director with Sears, and then as an Art Director at Macy's. She recently retired from BBDO in New York City after 29 years, where she was Senior VP Creative Director working on major accounts such as GE, Gillette, Lever Brothers and others. She won several advertising awards including a Cleo.
Susan was an avid world traveler, reader, gardener, dancer, and painter as well as theater and movie nut. She is survived by her husband Albert: son Erik; daughter-in-law Jennifer; granddaughters Isabel and Amelia; aunt Shirley Wood; uncle Armand (Bud) Lubatty; brothers Christopher, Jonathan and Jeffrey Wood and their spouses Sylvia, Maryann and Frances; nieces Courtney and Kate; and nephews Stephen, Christopher, and Robert. Visiting hours will be on Friday, November 14 from 2pm 4pm and 5pm 8pm at Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien, CT. There will be a funeral service on Saturday, November 15, at 11am also at the Lawrence Funeral Home.
Susan was loved for her generosity, sense of humor and infectious love of life - and will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
