Obituary of Phyllis Granata Evans

Phyllis Granata Evans, a resident of Storrs, CT and a former resident of Darien, passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2008 at her home in Storrs, CT. Born in 1921 in Minturno, Italy, she was the daughter of the late John and Christina (Lepone) Granata. She was 87. Phyllis served with the U.S. Army during World War II. She worked as a legal secretary for many years for companies such as American Cyanamid, Union Carbide and Stauffer Chemical Co. in New York City. She was owner and operator of the Chuckwagon Diner in Branchville, CT in the mid-70's. In her retirement, she worked for Life Study Fellowship in Darien. She is survived by her children, Christina Nielsen and her husband John of New Windsor, NY; Sandra L. Evans-Abbott and her husband Ronald of Storrs, CT and Brenda L. Evans of West Dennis, MA. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Gregory Ronald Giroux, Ronald William Giroux, Rachael D. Malcolm and Caroline C. Evans Abbott and seven great grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews and many loving friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Van Gordon Evans; four brothers, Nicholas, Louie, Anthony, Sr., and Virgilio Granata and one sister Maria Granata. Friends may call at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien on Sunday, November 16, 2008 from 2:00 to 6:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John R. C. Church, 1986 Post Road, Darien on Monday, November 17, 2008 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, Darien.
