Obituary of Ursula Plepp Ferguson

Ursula Plepp Ferguson, a resident of Darien for 38 years, passed away on Monday, December 1, 2008 at Richard L. Rosenthal Hospice Residence in Stamford. Born in 1938 in Hamburg, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Hans Richard and Martha Magnusson Plepp. She was 70 years of age.
Ursula immigrated to the United States in 1957. She worked as an assistant millenary buyer and hat model. From 1959 to 1969, she worked as a stewardess/purser for Pan American World Airway. On June 13, 1968, she survived a crash of a Boeing 707 during a monsoon in Calcutta, India and was recognized by Pan Am for her rescue efforts.
On February 14, 1970, she married Robert G. Ferguson, two children and a dog. She was a member of Wee Burn Country Club and was the Ladies Club Bowling Champion in 1997. She worked on the Flower Ball for many years, an annual Darien event for the benefit of the American Cancer Society. She was chairman of the Flower Ball in 1984.
She is survived by her husband, Robert of Darien; two children, Katherine Ferguson Healey and her husband, Thomas Healey of Wilton, CT; Robert G. Ferguson III and his wife Shauna O'Reilly Ferguson of Contoocook, NH and five grandchildren, Grace, Emily and Claire Healey and Tess and Robbie Ferguson.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at Noroton Presbyterian Chapel, 2011 Post Road, Darien. A reception will follow at Wee Burn Country Club, 410 Hollow Tree Ridge Road, Darien. Memorial donations may be made to Darien Post 53 Ambulance, P. O. Box 2066, Darien, CT 06280.
