Obituary of Harry Steven Burke

Harry Steven Burke, a longtime resident of Darien, died on Monday, August 17, 2009 at Stamford Hospital after a long illness. Born January 2, 1947 in Oak Bluffs on Martha's Vineyard, MA, he moved to Darien with his parents, the late Barbara Johnson and Francis Leslie Burke, as an infant. Until two years ago, he lived in his childhood home on West Avenue which was built by his maternal grandfather, Carl Johnson and his father, Francis (Frank) Burke. Harry attended the University of Oklahoma where his love for Sooner sports began, a passion he passed onto his son. He previously was co-owner of Frank L. Burke and Son, a tree and excavation business and retired from a position in sales. He was an Eagle Scout and a long time volunteer of Darien Troop 53. Harry is survived by his wife of 20 years, Olive Hauser and one son, Benjamin Steven Burke both of Darien. Harry was a loving and devoted friend, father and husband who will be greatly missed. Memorial Service will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 1864 Post Road, Darien on Friday, August 28, 2009 at 2:00 PM. Interment private.
