Obituary of Ida Mae Brady

Ida Mae Brady, longtime resident of Darien, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2009 in Norwalk Hospital. Ida was born in Keystone, Pennsylvania, on August 9, 1921, the daughter of the late Joseph Dominick and Lucy Evangalista. Ida graduated from Plains High School in 1939 and went on to earn an Associates degree at The College of Misericordia. After college, Ida worked in the hotel/restaurant business in the Poconos Mountains for years at such famous resorts as the High Point Inn and Stricklands, where she met her husband of 47 years, the late Paul J. Brady. Ida spent years working at the Showboat Inn in Greenwich where she cultivated many friendships, planned thousands of weddings, many aboard the former Presidential Yacht "The Honey Fitz". In the early 80's Ida even garnered minor celebrities with the "Call Ida" advertising campaign. In addition, Ida spent many hours volunteering her time for Cerebral Palsy fundraising initiatives and enjoying many of the sporting events of her children. In her later years "Grammy's" true passion was spending time with four grandchildren, who brought her enormous joy and happiness. Ida is survived by two sons, Patrick Brady of Atlanta, Georgia, and Michael "Harry" Brady of Westport, Connecticut; two daughter in laws, Sarah (Eckert) Brady of Atlanta, and Ann (Brennan) Brady of Westport; and four grandchildren, Alex Brady of Burlington, Vermont, Hannah Brady of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Bennett and Beau Brady of Westport. She is also survived by a brother and two sisters, Lee Dominick of Wilkes Barre, Flora Boccolini of Wilkes Barre, and Jenny Farneti of Binghamton, NY; along with many nieces and nephews. A viewing will be held at Edward Lawrence Funeral Home in Darien, Connecticut, 2119 Post Road, on Thursday October 22, from 11:00 AM -3:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John Roman Catholic Church, 1986 Post Road, Darien, CT on Friday, October 23 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, Darien.
