Obituary of Andrew J. Salerno

Andrew J. Salerno, a resident of Boynton Beach, FL for over 30 years and a former long time resident of Bronx, NY, passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at Bridgeport Hospital in Bridgeport, CT. Born in 1918 in New York City, he was the son of the late Christina Guarneri and Ciro Salerno. He was 91.
Andrew graduated from McBurney School in New York City. He worked for the New York City Police Department for 31 years and retired as a Sergeant, and he also served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Mae Volin Senior Center in Boynton Beach, FL. He was known for his generosity to the Migrant Worker Center in Boynton Beach and the joy he brought to all he came in contact with.
He is survived by his daughter, Dr. Janet S. D'Arcangelo of Darien; eight grandchildren, David, Andrew and Christopher Belanger; Jane and husband Dan Adams; James, Nicholas, John and Nina D'Arcangelo; and six great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife in 2005, Palma Salerno, and a daughter, Andrea Belanger.
The family will receive friends at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien on Monday, November 23, 2009 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. A private family interment was held at Spring Grove Cemetery, Darien.
