Obituary of Herbert McKay

Herbert (Bucky) McKay, a long time resident of Montauk and Woodlawn, NY, passed away on Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at the Rosenthal Hospice in Stamford, CT after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in 1932 in the Bronx, he was the son of the late Louise Rudolph and Samuel McKay. He was 77.
Herb was a New York City Firefighter for 32 years and retired as Captain in 1991. He was Captain's Representative and Treasurer of the Uniformed Fire Officers Association, president of the Woodlawn Heights Taxpayers and Civic Association, and a volunteer for over 20 years at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx. Herb, an American patriot and Korean War veteran, was a Loyal Defender of St. Patrick's Cathedral.
He is survived by his wife, Kay McKay of Montauk, NY and seven children, Douglas McKay, Brian McKay and Sean McKay all of Darien, CT; Ellen Oates of White Plains, NY; Maureen Whalen of Sleepy Hollow, NY; Matthew McKay of Ridgefield, NJ and Kieran McKay of New York City; and as "Poppy Seed", the beloved grandfather to 15 beautiful grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Harrison McKay and Stanley McKay of the Bronx, NY and one sister, Louise Daly of Alabama and many admiring nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien on Thursday, December 10, 2009 and Friday, December 11, 2009 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John R.C. Church, 1986 Post Road, Darien on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 9:00 AM. Burial will follow at St. Raymond's Cemetery, Bronx, NY.
