Obituary of Arthur E. Van Sciver

Arthur E. Van Sciver a lifelong resident of Darien died on Wednesday, Feb. 24 at Norwalk Hospital. He was 77. Born August 7, 1932 in Springdale, he was the son of the late Herbert W. Van Sciver and Clara L. Tompkins. Mr. Van Sciver graduated from Darien High School in 1950. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1952 and served in Germany during the Korean War. Mr. Van Sciver married Marilyn Mariotti on January 12, 1957. He began his professional career in 1957 as an Electrician with the Local 501 and in 1977 began his own company A.M. Electric. He retired in 1998. Mr. Van Sciver was an avid boatman and a lifelong member of the South Norwalk Boat Club. He was a member in high standing of the Masons and held many offices. He was active in his community. He served many years as a member and Chairman of the Sewer Commission. He was a member of the Noroton Fire Department and the Piedmont Club. Mr. Van Sciver is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marilyn. A son, Arthur L. Van Sciver and his wife, Jeanne of Darien, a daughter, Cindy L. Hampton and her husband Phillip of Darien and six grandchildren. Jesse Ryan, Artie, Jessica, and Kaylyn Van Sciver; and Samantha and Morgan Hampton. A brother Herbert B. Van Sciver and his wife June and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents Mr. Van Sciver is predeceased by his brothers William R. Van Sciver and Frederick L. Voelker. All services for Mr. Van Sciver will be held at Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien. Calling hours will be Sunday, Feb. 28 from 3 to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, Mar. 1 at 11 a.m. with burial to follow at Spring Grove Cemetery in Darien. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Noroton Fire Department, 1873 Post Road; the Masonic Club of Darien, 354 Post Road; or Post 53, P.O. Box 2066, all in Darien, CT 06820.
