Obituary of Frank E. DiGangi

Frank E. DiGangi, 92, a resident of Darien, passed away on March 2, 2010. He was born September 29, 1917 to Maria Gracia (Zafonte) and Leonardo DiGangi in West Rutland, VT. He was the husband of Genevieve (Colignon) DiGangi who predeceased him in 2009 after a marriage of 63 years. They resided in Minneapolis and St. Paul for 61 years. He received his B.S. degree from the Rutgers University College of Pharmacy in 1940 and his M.S. degree from Western Reserve University in Ohio in 1942. Upon completing his Ph.D. in pharmacy at the University of Minnesota in 1948, he joined the faculty of their College of Pharmacy where he served as a professor of medicinal chemistry until his retirement in 1985. He also served as Associate Dean. He served as an officer in the US Navy in the Pacific from 1943-1946. Mr. DiGangi is survived by his sister Elsie Dykes of Fair Lawn, NJ; daughters Ellen (Philo) Hall of Northfield, VT, and Janet (Dale) Greenwood of Stamford, CT; grandchildren Philo (Elizabeth) Hall of Washington, DC, Nathan (Monena) Hall of Denton, TX, Kirsten Hall of Washington, DC, Erin and Kira Greenwood of Stamford; one great-grandchild, Phoebe Hall; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his family, one of his greatest pleasures was the more than 2, 000 pharmacy students he taught, counseled and advised. A wake will be held at the Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Rd, Darien, CT, Friday, March 5, from 2:00 4:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on March 6 at 1 p.m., St. John's Roman Catholic Church, 1986 Post Rd., Darien. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Frank E.
