Obituary of John W. Lasko

John W. Lasko a life long Darien and Stamford resident passed away on March 27, 2010. He was the son of the late Joseph Lasko and Julia Lancos Lasko. He was 86. John graduated from Darien High School, and then worked as a machinist at Pitney Bowes for 44 years. He also assisted at auctions part time as a hobby. He was a member of the Church of St Cecelia, a member of the Noroton Fire Department for over 60 years, third degree in the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Pitney Bowes Oval Club. Along with his wife, he was an avid traveler who saw all 50 states plus six continents. He served with the Coast Guard aboard the U.S.S. Gulfport Frigate in the Pacific during World War II. He was also a former treasurer for the Catholic War Veterans. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Vera Gluz Lasko of Stamford, one brother, Joseph Lasko of Stamford, one sister Eleanor Munson of Cornwall, NY and a sister-in-law Sophie G. Wozniak and 16 nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by two brothers, Rev Stephen J. and Paul Lasko, four sisters, Julia McCaffrey, Mary Lasko, Bertha Summerton and Betty Hlavac. Calling hours will be held at the Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Church of St. Cecelia, 1184 Newfield Ave. Stamford, CT 06905 on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Stamford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Noroton Fire Department, 1873 Post Rd., Darien, CT 06820, or the charity of your choice.
