James L. Cherry Obituary

James L. Cherry, a life long resident of Stamford, passed away on Friday, January 11, 2008. Born March 23, 1919 in Stamford, he was the son of the late Martin and Delia (Egan) Cherry. He was 88.


Mr. Cherry was a graduate of Stamford High School. He was a long time employee of New Haven/Metro North Railroad. He served with the U.S. Navy on two Liberty ships and one Merchant Marine vessel supplying our Troops during World War II. He was an avid reader and swimmer who was a life long member of the Stamford YMCA.


He is survived by many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by two brothers and five sisters.


Friends may call at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien on Thursday, January 17, 2008 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. A funeral service will be held at the Funeral Home on Friday, January 18, 2008 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery, Darien.
